Celebrate 66 years of the Cherokee National Holiday with this year's commemorative t-shirt themed "Family: A bridge to the future, a link to the past."
Designed by Cherokee National Treasure Dan Mink, this year's shirt colorfully represents our Cherokee family tree - the seven clans, which are the ancestral ties to our family.
Each clan is shown (clockwise from lower left) - Wild Potato, Deer, Bird, Paint (Hawk), Long Hair (Lion), Blue (Bear), and Wolf.
Our sacred fire lays within the branches of the tree and each of the three flames represent the three Cherokee tribes. Surrounding the fire is the original ancient, universal symbol of faith given to all mankind - the four directions. Honoring the counties that make up our traditional communities here in Oklahoma are fourteen rings of smoke and the whole design is encircled by 66 interlocking hands that symbolize the link from our past to our future.
At the top of the shirt is "66th Cherokee National Holiday" written in Cherokee syllabary.
